From Goals to Results: Improving Education "System" Accountability. Challenge to Lead Series
Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)
This report concludes the first series of reports on the "Challenge to Lead" goals. It includes an action agenda, "From Goals to Results ... Making It Happen," that can help states make progress toward their goals. This report also summarizes the conclusions and recommendations from the earlier. The first 11 reports chronicle a remarkable record of progress in the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) states, including more pre-K enrollments, higher NAEP and college admission test results, gains in Advanced Placement, greater percentages of recent high school graduates going to college, and improvements in college graduation rates. Now, the 12th goal calls for every state to place "a high priority on an education system of schools, colleges and universities that is accountable." This means that SREB states should encourage early childhood programs, K-12 schools, community and technical colleges, two- and four-year colleges, universities and adult education to work together. But beyond that, it urges each of these to help all students succeed as they prepare to cross each educational bridge in their lives. (Contains 4 figures and 2 tables.)
