Community College Journal of Research & Practice, v30 n2 p117-127 Feb 2006
Arkansas Northeastern College, formerly Mississippi County Community College, has been in the business of providing training in the Northeast Arkansas region for over 15 years. Prior to 1996, adjunct trainers or faculty provided the training. In 1996, Mississippi County Community College's (MCCC) training director, Robin Myers (now president of Arkansas Northeastern College), felt the time had come for a major decision. Dr. Myers approached then president of MCCC, Dr. John Sullins, with the idea that if the college was serious about providing business and industry training, then full-time staff must be hired to meet the training schedule needs. This ultimately resulted in the formation of "The Solutions Group" (TSG), a separate division of the college that is now recognized in the state of Arkansas as a unique training provider, and the only two-year institution in the state with a full-time staff. This article gives a brief history of the TSG and examples of some of the challenges, rewards, and practices that have made it a successful enterprise.
