New Hopscotch
Forencich, Frank
Teaching Elementary Physical Education, v16 n2 p19-20 Mar 2005
Most adults think of hopscotch strictly as the typical box pattern painted on asphalt playgrounds. It is also thought of as a game for groups of young girls. This article discusses modern hopscotch and its variations. It also discusses how teachers can create their own modernized hopscotch courses. In all variations of the new hopscotch, teachers should try to involve children in the design process, particularly in deciding on the degree of challenge each diagram offers. This "play aspect" in physical education increases the likelihood that children will experience physical activity challenges best suited to their interests and physical abilities.
