"So What if My Students Misbehave?" Addressing Misbehavior in a Task-Involving Motivational Climate
Model, Eric D.; Todorovich, John R.; Largo-Wight, Erin
Teaching Elementary Physical Education, v16 n1 p18-21 Jan 2005
This article describes factors that teachers can use to create a task-involving motivational climate, discusses behavioral practices for increasing student compliance, and provides specific recommendations for addressing behavior concerns in the physical education setting. A good teaching philosophy built upon established principles is the best plan any teacher can implement. Establishing clear and concise rules for students to follow, along with an enjoyable but effective routine, fosters positive behavior and learning in any classroom. By guiding students with clear expectations, the opportunity to express a degree of authority or choice promotes increased motivation and dedication toward classroom activities. In conclusion, principles inherent in the task-involving motivational climate do not promote misbehavior, nor do they alleviate any of the teacher's inherent responsibilities. Instead, they promote and foster a climate where both teacher and student can prosper. (Contains 1 table.)
