The Legacy of Margie Hanson: It's All about Children
Sanders, Steve
Teaching Elementary Physical Education, v16 n6 p6-7 Nov 2005
The Margie R. Hanson Distinguished Service Award recognizes established professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of physical education for children. The 2005 recipient was Steve Sanders, former Senior Editor of "TEPE." This article contains the text of the speech Dr. Sanders made following an official NASPE awards ceremony at the 2005 AAHPERD National Convention in Chicago. In these comments, Dr. Sanders suggests that dedicated physical education teachers can do much to create environments that advocate for daily physical activity, and that it is time to move out of the classrooms and gyms to increase efforts to educate parents and the general public on the importance of physical activity.
