This article focuses on cardio-kickboxing, one of the hottest fitness trends sweeping the nation's fitness centers. The activity moves beyond the basics of kickboxing and provides participants with skills and techniques that help to enhance form, speed, power, and balance. Cardio-kickboxing is fun because it deviates from more conventional exercise techniques. However, it is somewhat complicated. Students begin by learning a choreographed routine, including the upper-cut, front kicks, cross shots, hook shots, side kicks, speed bag, and jabs. Each move is repeated to a count of 16 following a musical beat. To introduce new skills, a large overhead or Power Point slide is projected onto the wall of the gym so all students can view a skill or the routine sequence. This method has been of great assistance when teaching 40?80 students at a time. Once the routine has been performed several times, and it appears the students are comfortable with the movements, a new level of difficulty is introduced and encouraged them to try it.
