Teachers . . . Get a Cue!
Mally, Kristi K.
Teaching Elementary Physical Education, v17 n4 p38-39 Jul 2006
Physical educators are faced with many challenges when it comes to helping students learn movement skills, but taking time for explicit planning can overcome many of these obstacles. A simple, yet effective tool that should be part of every lesson is the instructional cue. The purpose of this article is fourfold. First, it describes what constitutes a quality, developmentally appropriate, instructional cue. Second, it discusses the innate value of consistently using quality cues. Third, it offers guidance on how to create quality instructional cues. Last, it provides suggestions on how to effectively use cues to enhance student learning.
