Do Pre-Service Primary Teachers Who Excel in Mathematics Become Good Mathematics Teachers?
Mapolelo, Dumma C.
Teaching and Teacher Education, v15 n6 p715-25 Aug 1999
Investigated the nature of pedagogical competency in student teachers identified as outstanding in mathematics, comparing their planning, teaching, and post-lesson reflections. Data from interviews, observations, and field notes found many commonalities among student teachers. They were not yet skilled in improving activities and explanations to help children enhance their understanding of concepts. They lacked the ability to self-evaluate. (SM)
