Becoming a Primary Teacher in Scotland: Comparing One-Year and Four-Year Courses.
Draper, Janet; Sharp, Stephen
Teaching and Teacher Education, v15 n8 p881-93 Nov 1999
Compared Scottish primary teachers trained in 1-year and 4-year teacher training programs, using data from several sources. Results found that 1-year program graduates were younger and completed their probation more quickly, while 4-year graduates were more diverse and brought a wider range of experience to the profession, with many of them embarking on teaching as a second career.
