Case-based Teaching in Homogeneous Teacher Education Contexts: A Study of Preservice Teachers' Situative Cognition.
Powell, Richard
Teaching and Teacher Education, v16 n3 p389-410 Apr 2000
Examined how situative knowledge, embedded in student teachers' prior experiences and a dilemma-based case, influenced their analyses of the case-as-written. Analysis of students' pre- and post-discussion writings about one case and during-discussion dialogue indicated that homogeneous thinking limited their ability to reflect critically and potential to make reasoned decisions based upon alternative or novel solutions.
