Toward Self-Directed Learning in Secondary Schools: What Do Teachers Do?
Bolhuis, Sanneke; Voeten, Marinus, J. M.
Teaching and Teacher Education, v17 n7 p837-55 Oct 2001
Examined teaching behavior in Dutch secondary schools in the early phase of an innovation promoting self-directed learning. Observation data indicated that teachers did not spend much time teaching students how to learn. Activating features of teaching were more predominant than the mere transmission of knowledge, but process-oriented teaching occurred very little. (SM)
