Classroom Discipline and Student Responsibility: The Students' View.
Lewis, Ramon
Teaching and Teacher Education, v17 n3 p307-19 Apr 2001
Examined the role of classroom discipline in promoting student responsibility for the protection of learning and safety rights in Australian classrooms. Surveys indicated that students believed teachers reacted to classroom misbehavior by increasing their use of coercive discipline, which inhibited development of student responsibility and distracted them from schoolwork. Secondary students rated themselves as less responsible than did sixth graders. (SM)
