Professional Orientations of Secondary School Teachers Towards Their Work.
van Veen, Klaas; Sleegers, Peter; Bergen, Theo; Klaassen, Cees
Teaching and Teacher Education, v17 n2 p175-94 Feb 2001
Surveyed Dutch secondary teachers to investigate their professional orientations, assuming that professionalism was socially defined and thus constructed by all involved. Overall, teachers differed in their orientations and in combinations of their orientations toward instruction, educational goals, and role in the school organization. Teachers tended to be oriented toward active student learning and toward both moral development and qualification. (SM)
