Becoming, Being and Unbecoming an Early Childhood Educator: A Phenomenological Case Study of Teacher Attrition.
Sumsion, Jennifer
Teaching and Teacher Education, v18 n7 p869-85 Oct 2002
Explored the trajectory of an early childhood educator's career commitment and eventual decision to leave teaching. Spanning 7 years, the study employed representation and analysis of metaphors as heuristic tools to illuminate the lived experience of becoming, being, and unbecoming an early childhood educator, highlighting the need to further explore the interplay between personal, relational, and contextual influences in order to develop a more comprehensive understanding of staff attrition.
