The Adequacies and Inadequacies of Three Current Strategies To Recruit, Prepare, and Retain the Best Teachers for All Students.
Zeichner, Kenneth M.
Teachers College Record, v105 n3 p490-519 Apr 2003
Analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of three major approaches to U.S. teacher education reform (the professionalization, deregulation, and social justice agendas), noting that although each has contributed to improving teacher education in order to lessen the achievement gap, each has certain weaknesses that undermine this goal. There are also important issues of inequality in U.S. society that none of the agendas address. (SM)
