Schools, Families, and Academically Able Students: Contrasting Modes of Involvement in Secondary Education.
Power, Sally; Whitty, Geoff; Edwards, Tony; Wigfall, Valerie
British Journal of Sociology of Education, v19 n2 p157-76 Jun 1998
Compares different levels of student involvement among "academically able" students at two schools. Uses data from these to make connections among the cultures of the schools, family perceptions, and subsequent forms of student involvement. Argues that these connections provide a way to understand facets of respondents' orientations to schooling. (DSK)
