Speaking about Cultural Difference and School Disadvantage. An Interview Study of "Samoan" Paraprofessionals in Designated Disadvantaged Secondary Schools in Australia.
Singh, Parlo
British Journal of Sociology of Education, v22 n3 p317-37 Sep 2001
Uses Bernstein's theory of pedagogic discourse to examine interview accounts of educational disadvantage provided by Samoan paraprofessionals in secondary schools in Queensland (Australia). Finds that Samoan paraprofessionals attributed educational disadvantage to the arbitrary organization of students, knowledge, and spaces in schooling institutions; and differences between school and Samoan institutions.
