A Linguistic Approach to Social Studies Vocabulary Development.
Milligan, Jerry L.; Ruff, Thomas P.
Social Studies, v81 n5 p218-20 Sep-Oct 1990
Advocates using a linguistic approach to supplement teaching social studies vocabulary. Highlights advantages of teaching vocabulary through etymological analysis, including greater student interest, more precise definitions, and the approach's transferability. Disadvantages include the complexity of some prefix meanings. Concludes that this approach helps students become independent learners and makes vocabulary acquisition more enjoyable. (CH)
