Forensics can serve as the perfect vehicle for science exploration and learning. As part of a professional development workshop, teachers participated in various forensic activities. This article describes an archaeological dig simulation that provides the catalyst for an inquiry-based activity. In this activity, teachers make crime scene observations, draw inferences based on those observations, learn critical thinking skills while trying to piece together information to solve a crime, and evaluate the results of their own scientific investigation. This inquiry-based activity can be modified to incorporate mathematics and writing. (Contains 2 figures.)
