Examined student attitudes after a humane education program which included "guest presentations." Results indicate that there was no advantage in having speakers and that programs using the guest speaker model to foster positive attitudes toward animals may tend to be ineffective. (JN)

Results of a study investigating the effects of three high school courses (science fiction literature course, biology course, and English composition course) on students' (N = 55) attitudes toward science indicated that none of the courses had a measurable effect when pretest scores were compared to posttest scores. Results from a human genetics/bioethics needs assessment questionnaire (N = 124 out of 300) mailed to Indiana health teachers are reported. Genetic topics and human genetic diseases/defects included in health science instruction are listed in two tables.
