First Year Chemical Engineering Students' Conceptions of Energy in Solution Processes: Phenomenographic Categories for Common Knowledge Construction.
Ebenezer, Jazlin V.; Fraser, Duncan M.
Science Education, v85 n5 p509-35 Sep 2001
Examines first-year chemical engineering students' conceptions of the energy changes taking place in dissolution. Students were individually interviewed and transcripts (n=17) were analyzed using a phenomenographic methodology. The phenomenographic category explanations given by students were used as the basis for developing an approach to teaching energy in solution processes. (Author/MM)
