Evaluation of an Energy Conservation Program for 9th Grade Students
Osbaldiston, Richard; Schmitz, Hannah
International Journal of Environmental and Science Education, v6 n2 p161-172 Apr 2011
The Energy Challenge is an environmental education program that is administered to ninth grade students in the public schools of a small Midwestern city in the United States. The program is sponsored and administered by the two local electric utilities, and it has been going on for seven years. To determine the effectiveness of the program, a pretest-posttest mail survey of students and parents was performed. The results suggest that the Energy Challenge has a positive effect on improving knowledge, motivation, and behavior of students concerning home energy usage and conservation. (Contains 1 table.)
