"Of Course, It's Just Obvious": Adolescents' Ideas of Scientific Knowledge.
Larochelle, Marie; Desautels, Jacques
International Journal of Science Education, v13 n4 p373-90 Oct-Dec 1991
Identifies the unsophisticated assumptions and conjectures, both intuitive and empirical in character, underlying secondary school science students' (n=25) portrayal of scientific knowledge and its production. Structured interview protocols explored not only the students' substantive knowledge base but, perhaps more important, their ability to render critical reflections on that knowledge utilizing appropriate scientific discourse.
