Higher and Lower-Order Cognitive Skills: The Case of Chemistry.
Zoller, Uri; Tsaparlis, Georgios
Research in Science Education, v27 n1 p117-30 1997
Explores student performance in chemistry examinations on items that require higher-order cognitive skills (HOCS) or lower-order cognitive skills (LOCS). Findings indicate that students performed considerably lower on questions requiring HOCS than on those requiring LOCS. Performance on questions requiring HOCS may not correlate with that on questions requiring LOCS. Contains 25 references. (Author/JRH)
