Teaching Science through Online, Peer Discussions: SpeakEasy in the Knowledge Integration Environment.
Hoadley, Christopher M.; Linn, Marcia C.
International Journal of Science Education, v22 n8 p839-57 Aug 2000
Discusses whether students can learn science from carefully designed online peer discussions. Contrasts two formats of contributed comments--historical debate and narrative text--and assesses the impact of an asynchronous discussion on student understanding of the nature of light. Reports that students gain integrated understanding of the nature of color from both discussion formats. (Contains 26 references.) (Author/YDS)
