Hands-On Current Electricity: A Professional Development Course
Gibbons, Patrick C.; McMahon, Ann P.; Wiegers, John F.
Journal of Elementary Science Education, v15 n2 p1-11 Fall 2003
"Hands-on Current Electricity" gives K-8 teachers the opportunity to experience inquiry learning about current electricity by (1) experimenting with current electricity through a variety of activities, (2) discovering preconceived mental models of electricity used to understand their observations, (3) creating new mental models that have greater explanatory power, and (4) presenting a hands-on current electricity activity to their students as part of a final project. One teacher's intellectual growth is highlighted by means of excerpts from the teacher's weekly journal entries. (Contains 2 tables and 1 figure.)
