Walker, Noojin – School Science and Mathematics, 1977
Methods for determining the radius of an atom are described. Unlike a previous article which approached the problem from an elementary perspective, this article examines a progression of increasingly sophisticated determinations. (CS)

Mechling, Kenneth R. – School Science and Mathematics, 1975
Presents a position intended to stimulate prompt and vigorous action to promote interest in junior high school science teacher preparation programs based on several cited factors which have seemingly contributed to lack of concern for such. Data from a survey of junior high school science teachers is summarized and comparisons made. (EB)

Garigliano, Leonard J. – School Science and Mathematics, 1975
Responding to publicity about declining computation scores on standardized tests, the author conducted a study comparing October with May testing and timed with untimed tests. He concluded that students today are able to compute but do so more slowly than earlier students and earn higher scores on applications and concepts. (SD)

McNamara, Eugene S.; Fowler, H. Seymour – School Science and Mathematics, 1975
A comparison is made between a learning situation held in an outdoor environment as opposed to one in the indoor classroom. Differences in achievement, critical thinking and preference for the environment were sought. The methodology used, the hypotheses tested and tabulated data are presented. (EB)

Babikian, Elijah – School Science and Mathematics, 1975
It was hypothesized that elementary school science textbooks do not impart a clear image of the nature of science and the activities of scientists, that they do not consider the explorability of natural phenomena and answerability of science questions. Results of a survey indicate that elementary school texts do present an aberrated view of…

Eisenberg, Theodore; McGinty, Robert L. – School Science and Mathematics, 1975
The authors argue that a unit on logic should be included in the mathematics curriculum of preservice elementary teachers. In support of their argument they cite recommendations of the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics (CUPM) and research literature. The logical content of current textbooks is surveyed. (SD)
