Student Academic Underpreparedness: Effects on Faculty.
Pitts, J. Michael; White, William G., Jr.; Harrison, Andolyn B.
Review of Higher Education, v22 n4 p343-65 Sum 1999
A study explored the impact of academically underprepared students on 14 liberal arts and sciences faculty at two open-admissions universities. Interviews revealed faculty faced widespread, acute problems teaching underprepared students, and they feel isolated, with little colleague or administrator support. Many underwent a confusing, emotionally trying process of personal adaptation, role redefinition, and reassessment of college-level teaching and learning. (Author/MSE)
