Role Conflict, Role Ambiguity, Powerlessness and Burnout among High School Supervisors.

This study of 225 department heads in New Jersey high schools investigated role conflict and role ambiguity and their relationship to powerlessness as stressors leading to burnout. Results support contentions that some burnout variables are situation-specific, placing the onus for modification on the organization, not the individual. (MT)
