Children's Written Responses to Stereotypical and Nonstereotypical Story Starters.
Trepanier-Street, Mary L.; And Others
Journal of Research in Childhood Education, v5 n1 p60-72 Fall-Win 1990
Examined written responses of 140 third and sixth graders to beginnings of stories whose characters held stereotypical or nonstereotypical occupational roles. Results suggest significant gender differences and gender stereotyping in children. More male characters than female characters were added to stories, and added male characters were often the problem solvers. (SH)
