Children's Sex-Role Knowledge and Behavior: An Ethnographic Study of First Graders in the Rural South.
Goetz, Judith Preissle
Theory and Research in Social Education, v8 n4 p1-13 Win 1981
Examines the extent to which two classrooms of rural southern first graders shared common sex-role beliefs within an institutional setting that emphasized conflicting (traditional and egalitarian) gender-specific expections. Findings are presented, including that boys and girls drew from the total range of masculine, feminine, and neutral behaviors with few restrictions by gender identity. (Author/DB)
