A Comparison of Preferences for Instructional Objectives between Teachers and Students.

Preferences of 92 fifth-graders and 14 music teachers for 20 common instructional objectives of music education were compared. Performance of each objective was demonstrated for students. A disparity of preference was found on 10 objectives, with negative student attitudes centering mainly on listening and knowledge of harmonic and melodic structure.
