Comparative Effects of Three Sequences of Moves for Teaching Selected Mathematical Concepts to College Students
Catanzano, Robert; Godwin, Wanda
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 7, 5, 276-289, Nov 76

Among the results were that a characterization-exemplification sequence was most effective on immediate acquisition of low-level items and exemplification-characterization-exemplification on short-term retention of high-level items.
