Social Studies and Motivation: High School Students' Perceptions of the Articulation of Social Studies to Work, Family, and Community
Farman, Greg; And Others
Theory and Research in Social Education, 6, 3, 27-39, Sep 78
Describes a model to evaluate the extent to which students perceive that coursework will be helpful to some future aspect of their lives. Social studies was not perceived as highly articulated with future careers, marriage, or family life, but students who expected community work to be important to their future happiness were more likely to consider social studies important.
