An Evaluation of the Mathematics-Methods Program Involving the Study of Teaching Characteristics and Pupil Achievement in Mathematics
Thornton, Carol Dodd
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 8, 1, 17-25, Jan 77
Ten students, randomly selected from each of three different elementary mathematics methods programs at one university, each were videotaped teaching one lesson to four randomly assigned third graders. Findings showed significant correlations between three teaching variables (clarity, questioning, pupil involvement) and pupil achievement, and significant differences between the three teaching groups.
