Conventional Versus Confirmatory Factor Analysis: Methods for Validating the Structure of Existing Scales.
Burnett, Paul C.; Dart, Barry C.
Journal of Research and Development in Education, v30 n2 p126-32 Win 1997
To investigate degree of variation in factor structures produced using different factor analytic techniques, two large data sets were analyzed using four factor analytic approaches (theoretical conventional, theoretical conventional-confirmatory, modified confirmatory, and pure confirmatory). Data sets included third through seventh graders and college students. The variation in factor structures produced by the factor analytic approaches was small. (SM)
