Parental Involvement in Schools: Parent and Teacher Perceptions of Roles, Efficacy, and Opportunities.
Gettinger, Maribeth; Guetschow, Kristen Waters
Journal of Research and Development in Education, v32 n1 p38-52 Fall 1998
Surveys examined K-12 parents' and teachers' perceptions of parent roles, efficacy, and opportunities for involvement. Teachers rated parents as being more effective through their participation than did parents. Teachers also reported more parental barriers and fewer opportunities for involvement. Most respondents emphasized the importance of ongoing parent-teacher communication. Respondents revealed a discrepancy between current and ideal parent involvement levels. (SM)
