Faculty Attitudes towards Teaching in the Distance Education Mode: An Exploratory Investigation.
Taylor, J. C.; White, V. J.
Research in Distance Education, v3 n3 p7-11 Jul 1991
Measures of the valence and instrumentality perceptions of 37 faculty members regarding distance teaching found that job satisfaction was largely associated with teaching, particularly working with motivated students and the quality of interaction with students, leading to a clear preference for face-to-face teaching. Benefits of off-campus teaching--autonomy, flexible scheduling, and outreach to broader audiences--were satisfying aspects of distance teaching. (SK)
