In a study of the compensation of more than 600 college and university presidents, both individual and institutional characteristics were found to predict salary. The overall results are consistent with both functional theories of compensation and perspectives emphasizing the attribution of effectiveness to leaders. (MSE)

The Differential Coursework Patterns Project at Iowa State University was used by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville as a method of linking outcome measures to program data. Using the exploratory data analysis method of median polishing, the institutional and departmental satisfaction of women who recently entered the academic profession was examined. A large national data set was used to assess the causal influence of college selectivity on earnings after controlling for a variety of background variables.
