Brinkman, Paul T. – Research in Higher Education, 1985
A model was constructed in which it was assumed that cost and enrollment at public two-year colleges are mutally influential. The model was then estimated by both ordinary least squares regression and two-state least squares regression. The results were found to differ only slightly. (Author/MLW)

Dijkman, Frank G – Research in Higher Education, 1985
An allocation model for teaching and nonteaching staff developed at the University of Utrecht is characterized as highly normative, leading to lump sums to be allocated to academic departments. Details are given regarding the reasons for designing the new model and the process of implementation. (Author/MLW)

Batson, Steve W. – Research in Higher Education, 1985
The types and number of faculty cases litigated and reported at state and federal levels for the 1982 calendar year are discussed. From categorical data summaries, suggested institutional research data bases and studies were formulated as advanced planning mechanisms. (Author/MLW)

Smart, John C.; McLaughlin, Gerald W. – Research in Higher Education, 1985
The effect of administrative service as department chair on the scholarly careers of academic chemists is explored through an analysis of their publication and doctoral student productivity records over a two-decade period. The results indicate no significant difference in the productivity levels of the experimental and control groups. (Author/MLW)

Voorhees, Richard A. – Research in Higher Education, 1985
LISREL (Linear Structural Relations) was employed to account for 42 percent of the variance in the persistence of 343 new freshmen financial aid recipients at a major urban university. Results indicate that financial need, student residency status, and noncampus-based loans and grants have direct effects on persistence.

Toombs, William; And Others – Research in Higher Education, 1985
The receptivity across a university faculty to the role changes associated with continuing education is examined. Respondents evaluated the importance of a set of role behaviors. Application of multiple discriminant analysis to these ratings identified agreement on several basic values. (Author/MLW)

Baird, Leonard L. – Research in Higher Education, 1986
The correlates of average departmental annual research journal publication rates of faculty were examined in three disciplines: chemistry, history, and psychology. Variables studied included factual information about each department, faculty perceptions and ratings, and graduate students' perceptions and ratings. (Author/MLW)

Renner, K. Edward – Research in Higher Education, 1986
Part of the crisis in higher education is due to the age and tenure distribution of the faculty and their escalating future salary costs. Universities must find ways to gain financial and academic flexibility. Career alternatives that can provide inducements for faculty to leave the university are described. (Author/MLW)

Olivas, Michael A. – Research in Higher Education, 1986
A national survey of Hispanic financial aid recipients is reported, including student self-reports of income (theirs or their parents') and verified income figures. Bingen, Franz; And Others – Research in Higher Education, 1986
Regression techniques are used frequently to analyze the relationships between university activity variables and the needs for different categories of resources. The least median of squares (LMS) technique is discussed. The parameters of some regression equations are reestimated by means of this robust regression technique. (Author/MLW)
