The Call for Parent Involvement in Rural Communities: Mantra and Mystification.

Analysis of NELS88 data found that parent involvement in schools varied little by place of residence. Negligible effects of control variables suggest that parent involvement is elusive, perhaps evoked prematurely to remedy low achievement in impoverished rural schools. Efforts to remove small schools from their local communities run counter to the rhetoric of parent involvement. Contains 43 references. (Author/SV)
