The Perils of Parent Involvement: Tracking, Curriculum, and Resource Distortions in a Middle School Mathematics Program.
McGrath, Daniel J.; Kuriloff, Peter J.
Research in Middle Level Education Quarterly, v22 n3 p59-83 Spr 1999
Examined parents' influence in middle-school mathematics track placements on the organization of students and assignment of teachers. Found that parents' efforts to re-place students created large upper-level heterogeneous tracks. Upper-middle class, involved parents influenced the overall distribution of students on grade-wide teams. Parents' actions resulted in frequent reassignment of middle-school mathematics teachers.
