The Patterning of Early Literacy Events in Ten Family Contexts and Their Visibility to Teachers.
Feiler, Anthony Charles; Webster, Alec
Research Papers in Education: Policy and Practice, v13 n3 p231-59 Oct 1998
Examined emergent literacy in preschool children, interviewing low-income parents and observing children whom preschool teachers predicted would make either good or poor literacy progress. The study investigated what parents did with their children before primary school. Most children had rich literacy experiences, often specifically targeting literacy skills. Teachers successfully predicted literacy based on early contact with families and students. (SM)
