The Relations of Holland-Typed Majors to Students' Freshman and Senior Work Values.
Huang, Ya-Rong; Healy, Charles C.
Research in Higher Education, v38 n4 p455-77 Aug 1997
A study investigated relationships between academic majors and six undergraduate student work values (authority, recognition, administrative responsibility, financial success, helping others, artistic creativity), using Holland's theory of occupational choice. Subjects were 18,137 students persisting at four-year institutions from 1985 to 1989. Results show Holland-typed majors attract freshmen whose work values fit the departmental environment, and senior majors predict work values. (Author/MSE)
