Interstate Variation in the Mathematics Achievement of Rural and Nonrural Students.
Lee, Jaekyung; McIntire, Walter G.
Journal of Research in Rural Education, v16 n3 p168-81 Win 2000
Nationally, rural students in grade 8 outperformed their nonrural counterparts on the mathematics section of the 1996 National Assessment of Education Progress. Fourteen states had significant rural-urban differences in mathematics achievement, but seven favored rural students and seven favored nonrural students. This pattern was related to six factors reflecting rural school conditions and practices. (Contains 22 references.) (SV)
