Upholding Mainstream Culture: The Tradition of the American High School Play.
Cousins, Heather
Research in Drama Education, v5 n1 p85-94 Feb 2000
Questions the educational value of the traditional high-school play. Argues that the traditional school play upholds mainstream American culture through a process of patriotism and exclusion of minority groups as well as mainstream theatre. Recommends the use of non-mainstream theatre practices such as devised drama as an alternative to the traditional school play. (PM)
