Tracking Financial Aid and Persistence of Women, Minority, and Needy Students in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Fenske, Robert H.; Porter, John D.; DuBrock, Caryl P.
Research in Higher Education, v41 n1 p67-94 Feb 2000
This longitudinal study followed four consecutive freshmen cohorts at a large urban public university. Found science, engineering, and mathematics (SEM) students persisted and graduated at higher rates than non-SEM majors. Gift aid for SEM majors was more likely to be merit-based than need-based. Women, but not underrepresented minorities or needy students, graduated at higher rates than other SEM majors. (Author/DB)
