Teaching and Learning National Transformation Programme
Browne, Liz
Research in Post-Compulsory Education, v11 n3 p267-276 Oct 2006
This article reports on a research project undertaken on behalf of the Standards Unit to research the impact of the Teaching and Learning National Transformation Programme for the Learning and Skills sector. The transformational programme is best described as having three enablers, namely teaching and learning resources to support practitioners, subject coaching network meetings, and a professional training programme for nominated subject learning coaches. Drawing on evidence from a survey questionnaire which contained opportunity for both one-word responses and a more in-depth reply, the research sets out to explore the impact of the three enablers on teaching and learning. The article will explain the context for change, focus on the theoretical debate underpinning subject coaching, and identify some initial findings in relation to programme impact worthy of sharing with the research community. Initial evidence demonstrates that where there has been individual commitment to participate fully on the programme, with support at the course and organisational level, there is perceived to be a considerable impact observed in learner behaviour, retention, success and satisfaction.
