Developing Critical Thinking for the Internet
Pachtman, Andrew B.
Research & Teaching in Developmental Education, v29 n1 p39-47 Fall 2012
The internet is the defining technology for an entire generation. It requires the student to be able to critically evaluate information. It also requires the student to think critically about what information is contained in the information retrieved. How do we prepare developmental education students for these tasks? This article discusses the use of three level reading guides as a method to prepare students to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the internet. Parallels are drawn between online comprehension skills and text comprehension skills. The process of how to design and use a three level reading guide is provided. (Contains 1 table.)
