Tucker, Carolyn M.; Zayco, Rose A.; Herman, Keith C.; Reinke, Wendy M.; Trujillo, Mark; Carraway, Kirsten; Wallack, Cory; Ivery, Phyllis D.
Psychology in the Schools, v39 n4 p477-88 Jul 2002
A model for understanding the interplay between student-reported teacher behaviors, student self-systems, and student engagement was tested. African American students (N=117) completed a comprehensive questionnaire regarding teacher context, self, and engagement variables. Student self-system variables mediated relations between teacher context, and engagement. Contrary to predictions, however, teacher involvement exerted a strong and direct effect on student engagement. (Contains 21 references and 3 tables.) (GCP)
